Description
The Miner’s Poet is an anthology of poems written by Vernon Dix between the ages of fifteen and thirty. Now in his seventies, he has seen some of his poems published and these are now brought together in a complete version for his friends and relatives.
Vernon was a miner and entertainer during the 1950s and 1960s, struggling to make ends meet for his wife and five children. He later turned his outgoing personality to selling and won a number of awards for his achievements. Later, his creativity focussed him on his engineering ability, retiring from work during his fifties as a result of an accident whilst repairing an excavator.
Vernon’s love of music and words comes together in this book as a befitting tribute to his life, his passions and his insights. Until his death in 2009 Vernon lived in the Rhymney Valley, and was always happy to reminisce and tell the many stories of his life, his travels and his family.
